As we all know, there are pros and cons to everything in life. The Landmark Hotel Snack and Salad Bar is no different. Hidden away in the basement of the Landmark building, underneath The Mill Restaurant, there’s no sign pointing the way and it’s not at all easy to find. There’s no natural daylight in this streamlined, all white canteen type restaurant and it couldn’t be described as either smart or cosy but it’s pleasant enough if you want to grab a quick lunch. More importantly, it’s incredibly good value for money, a rare thing in Baku!
You enter, choose your table, and then order and pay at the counter. Then you go to the different food stations, one for salads, one for hot meals and another for drinks and collect your food. It’s as simple as that!
I met a girlfriend for lunch here. She works in the area and her lunch hour is limited, so this was ideal, no faffing about, no ordering, straight into eating and a good catch up, talking at 100 miles a minute. We each had a salad, Caesar for her, Greek for me, a cup of coffee and free water. The whole shebang cost AZN9 and the portions were more than we could manage. The food is not fancy in any way but it’s fresh and tastes good. What more can you ask?
The Salad and Snack Bar do a daily menu of hot food as well as salads, soups and sandwiches. A large baguette sandwich costs from a mere AZN2 and you can eat in or take away. The dessert and cake selection looked very nice too. I spotted a raspberry Victoria sponge cake which had me dithering over my decision to be good but I resisted on this occasion. Now I’m torn between regret and polishing my halo.
